Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2: What to Expect From the Remake

A jump button, voiced cutscenes and a Hall of Fallen Foes arrive on November 5

Nintendo’s remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, first released on the Nintendo 64 in
1998, launches on November 5 for Nintendo Switch 2 only. It costs $59.99 digitally and $69.99
physically.

New Controls and Camera

The remake adds a proper jump button, a roll dash, gyro aiming and a camera you can move
freely, which the original never had.

Story and World

• Voiced cutscenes with expanded dialogue. Link stays silent.
• Orchestral music and fully remodelled locations.
• Time passes in town, so night can fall while Link is there.
• Threads of Time, a new menu that recaps the story and shows your next objective.

Extras

• Hall of Fallen Foes: statues of defeated enemies, where you can fight bosses again and
beat your best time.
• Ocarina with your voice: hum or play a melody into the Switch 2 microphone, and Link
plays it in the game.
• Zelda Notes: a companion in the Nintendo Switch app with a virtual ocarina and a quiz
of more than 2,000 questions.
Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo figures are planned for 2027.

How It Runs

Digital Foundry measured the remake at 1080p and 60 frames per second in Nintendo’s
September footage. The download is estimated at about 27 GB.

Our early take: The remake looks like a very complete way to play a classic, whether you are
new or returning. We are not giving a score because we have not played it.
