God of War Laufey Delayed to May 20, 2027

Sony Santa Monica Studio has pushed back God of War Laufey. The studio announced the delay on November 4, and the game now launches on May 20, 2027. It had been scheduled for February 16, 2027. That is a gap of about three months
What the studio said
Santa Monica Studio said it will use the extra time for finishing touches and to push the game to its fullest potential. The studio also thanked fans for the excitement since the game’s reveal in June.
Why the date may have moved
The studio gave no detailed reason, but the schedule offers some clues:
- A crowded early 2027. Reports describe February 2027 as an increasingly busy release window.
- Sony’s own release. Until Dawn 2 launches on January 28. Before the delay, the two games would have released only weeks apart.
- A busy studio. Santa Monica is also working on the God of War Trilogy Remake and the next Kratos-led game from director Cory Barlog.

Pre-orders and editions
Pre-orders opened on September 29. Digital pre-orders and the previously announced editions should carry over to the new date, but check your retailer or the PlayStation Store for any changes. A collector’s box priced at $149.99 USD/ €149.99/ £129.99 has also appeared online, including a statue, oracle deck, and mini artbook, with the game sold separately.
What we know about the game
God of War Laufey was announced in June 2026. A 20-minute showcase at the State of Play that month impressed fans. The story follows Faye’s journey through the Everywhen. The game is coming to PS5.
Our take
A three-month delay is short, and it gives the game room away from Until Dawn 2 and other early-2027 releases. For a major game, extra polish is usually welcome. Fans who have waited this long can probably wait until spring.
