GTA 6 launches on November 19, and you can download it before then. If you bought a digital copy, pre-load opens on November 10. This post covers when it starts, what to do before then, what is different for boxed copies, and the new screenshots Rockstar just released.
When Pre-Load Starts
PS5
Pre-load unlocks at midnight in your local time on November 10.
Xbox Series X|S
Pre-load unlocks at 12 AM GMT on November 10.
GTA 6 is only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and there is no PC date yet.
Get Your Console Ready
Rockstar has confirmed the download is 212 GB. That is huge, so do this first:
- Check your free storage and delete games you don’t play.
- Connect your console by cable if you can, because Wi-Fi can be slow with a file this size.
- Turn off other downloads so GTA 6 gets your full speed.
- Check that your pre-order shows in your library.

Rockstar released a new batch of about 38 GTA 6 screenshots on its official website on November 5. They give another look at Jason, Lucia and Vice City, plus more of the wider state of Leonida. If you want something to look at while the pre-load downloads, the gallery is a good place to start.
Boxed Copies
Boxed copies reach stores on November 12. You will need the code inside the box to start the pre-load, so you can only begin after you have the disc.
What Happens on Launch Day
Pre-load only downloads the game. It stays locked until launch day, when it unlocks. Standard Edition is $79.99, and Ultimate Edition is $99.99 and digital only.
